INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES AT ICRS FOR MEDIA

Members of the media who attend this year's CBA International Christian Retail Show (ICRS) in St. Louis, MO, June 27-30, will be busy deciding which bestselling and beloved artists, authors, filmmakers, and industry leaders to interview!

In an unprecedented move, CBA, the Association for Christian Retail, is providing amazing access between registered media and authors/artists/speakers by supplying complimentary tickets to selected CBA-sponsored events. By request only, media are provided with tickets to the Heart of the Author Breakfast, Heart of the Artist Luncheon, CBA Member Luncheon, Workshops, and Seminars. The only requirement is that media request the event(s) they desire to attend prior to June 10, 2010 (CBA is unable to accommodate requests made after this time) . Additional press conference coverage will be available after every major CBA event, such as Pacesetter, Worship Him, the General Sessions, and more. This will allow media organized and controlled access to personalities and speakers they would not have otherwise.

Highly valued in the industry as a launching pad for great Christian books, music, and products, ICRS provides the perfect setting to connect authors and artists with the appropriate media, which is the objective of every publishing house and the goal of every media outlet in attendance.

"We've heard the media frustration of discovering after the fact that a certain artist or personality is in attendance, and we want this remedied," noted CBA Executive Director Curtis Riskey. "This year, we're seeing a growing number of new media in attendance and the effect that's having on the publishing houses inviting some of their top-selling authors."

More of the workshops this year will reflect the always-evolving changes evidenced within this past year of our industry. For example, during the General Sessions, explore how the digital world is influencing and directing the book industry. Digital solutions and global experts will be represented on a diverse panel, with representatives from Google, ECPA, Powell's, EMI-CMG, and others.

With Family Entertainment abounding this year, and numerous new and upcoming films being premiered such as Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment Amish Grace and an exclusive sneak peak of the theatrical film The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader , Francis Chan's Basic Fear God , Phil Visher's What's in the Bible series, Grizzly Adams® Media Group producing cutting-edge faith based 3D movies and projected release of 100 faith shows during the next five years, media attention is assured.

In approaching the ever-important media/artist connection along with uniting exhibitors and retailers, CBA is looking to the publishing houses, authors, artists, and filmmakers for unique stories and newsworthy topics that will be sent to local and national media prior to and during the show.

NEW EDITOR AT CHARISMA

Charisma, the leading periodical for Spirit-filled believers worldwide, has named a new editor as part of a multifaceted initiative to better serve readers with a redesigned print magazine, expanded digital editions and a new smartphone application.
Marcus Yoars, who has served as editor of Ministry Today for the last three years, is only the third editor of Charisma in the magazine’s 35-year history of reaching the charismatic/Pentecostal/Spirit-filled community. Yoars, 34, has been in the publishing industry for more than 15 years, including serving as an editor for Thomas Nelson, LifeWay and Focus on the Family. Born and raised on the missionary field in Hong Kong, he is a graduate of Auburn University.

Yoars fills the post vacated by award-winning journalist J. Lee Grady, who resigned in January to focus on international ministry after 11 years as editor of Charisma. Grady will continue as a contributing editor to the magazine.

Starting with the May issue, Charisma will have a new design, a new slogan (“Life in the Spirit”) and enhanced content that still includes what the magazine is known for: compelling stories, practical teaching, commentary and news about "what the Holy Spirit is doing around the world."

“It’s a new day for Charisma,” Yoars says. “We’ve been preaching that around the Strang offices for months, but it’s exciting to finally see things taking shape as we transition into a new Charisma starting in May. Lee Grady did a phenomenal job of further establishing the magazine as a hub in the Spirit-filled community, and I plan to continue that ongoing conversation with longtime readers and critics alike. It just might look a little different and take place in some new vehicles.”

Charisma will also launch in May a new smartphone application that allows mobile-phone users to read breaking news, entertainment reviews, feature stories and more. The app, which is among the first provided by a Christian magazine, will be free and will allow users to better connect with the magazine’s newly organized Web site, www.charismamag.com.

POSTAL SERVICE PROPOSES 5-DAY DELIVERY

The Postal Service today took its case for five-day delivery to the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC).

The Postal Service is required by law to seek an advisory opinion from the PRC any time a nationwide change in service is proposed. Today’s filing begins the PRC review.

A report accompanying the request notes, “The Postal Service does not take this change lightly and would not propose it if six-day mail service could be supported by current volumes. There is no longer enough mail to sustain six days of delivery.”

The five-day delivery proposal is part of comprehensive plan announced March 2, “Delivering the Future,” a roadmap intended to bring certainty to a viable Postal Service well into the future and to help it recover from dramatic losses in volume resulting from electronic diversion and exacerbated by the economic recession.

The five-day report notes, “Ten years ago, the average household received five pieces of mail every day. Today, it receives four pieces and by 2020, that number will fall to three. Reducing street delivery to five days will help rebalance postal operations with the needs of today’s customers. It also will save more than $3 billion a year, including reductions in energy use and carbon emissions.”

Postmaster General John E. Potter said it was important to stress that the proposal dealt only with Saturday street delivery and that Post Offices will be open on Saturdays, access to P.O. boxes would continue, Express Mail would be delivered seven days a week and incoming mail would still be processed.

“It’s five days of delivery, six days of service and Express Mail seven days a week,” Potter noted adding that postal processing operations would continue on a seven-day schedule.

The Postal Service report can be found at http://www.usps.com/communications/five-daydelivery and the request for the advisory opinion can be accessed at prc.gov.
