Christian Small Publishers Association (CSPA) has launched a new book review program for bloggers called BookCrash. BookCrash offers free review copies of new books from small Christian publishers to reviewers who post Christian book reviews on their blogs.
Many small publishers are producing quality reading material for Christians. BookCrash is designed to help these small publishers get the word out to the reading public about their new books.
We chose the name BookCrash because, once in awhile, a good book crashes into your life and changes your world. We believe that small publishers have those types of books for readers, explained Sarah Bolme, Director of Christian Small Publishers Association.
Any blogger with a regular following of readers can sign up to be a review blogger for the books featured on BookCrash. In exchange for a free review copy of a book, bloggers are asked to write a fair review of the book and post it on their blog and one other consumer book site.
To learn more about this new book review program for bloggers, or to sign up to review books offered on BookCrash, visit http://www.BookCrash.com.

JERRY JENKINS ON FAMILY TALK
Guild owner and New York Times bestselling author Jerry B. Jenkins will appear on Family Talk with Dr. James Dobson, Monday and Tuesday, June 20 and 21.
Jerry will talk with Dr. Dobson about the importance of protecting your marriage by planting hedges around it.
"Hedges are practical ways to avoid compromising situations and giving temptation a foothold," Jenkins says. "Too often, temptation slips in undetected and, in a dizzying whirl of deception and betrayal, causes a marriage to crumble."
In Jerry's book, Hedges: Loving Your Marriage Enough to Protect It, he shares candidly about his own marriage and the steps he and his wife take to protect it.
Family Talk reaches out to the younger generation with the Judeo-Christian worldview of the family. The ministry's goal is "to help preserve and promote the institution of the family and the biblical principles on which it is based" by focusing on issues related to "marriage, parenthood, evangelism, and ... righteousness in the culture."

B & H LAUNCHES BLOG
B&H has just launched their new blog at http://blog.bhpublishinggroup.com. Says Aaron Linne, Executive Producer,

The most important part of this blog, though, is for us to discover what you want. Please, don't hesitate to respond to our posts in the comments section. We'll be watching to see which posts are the most read and which ones you respond to the most; we need your help in developing this blog into a place where you can engage with the B&H family every day."

FRIGHTENING STATISTICS ABOUT TODAY'S YOUTH
Recent polls illustrate what Christian parents have feared: kids are dropping out of church early and for good. Age 16 is the average age at which teens are dropping out, says one poll, and 70% of Protestants ages 18 to 30 quit church by age 23, says another. Authors JoshMcDowell and Bob Hostetler have written Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door (Thomas Nelson, August 2011, ISBN: 1400317202, $12.99) to stem a troubling tide among Christian youth.
Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door answers many of the faith-related questions Christian youth face. It challenges young readers to test gospel truths found in the Bible so they can learn to give an answer for their faith as they mature into thinking adults.
"We receive all kinds of messages, myths, and misconceptions in the course of our lives,” says co-author Bob Hostetler. “One of those messages is the idea that following Jesus requires us to check our brains at the door—that reason and faith are incompatible. And that mistaken idea leads to others. That's why this book exists: to help a young man or woman weigh the evidence and lay a firm foundation for a strong faith in Christ."

DAYSPRING'S FIRST RECORDABLE STORYBOOK
Ranking second on Parable's Top Children's Best-sellers list for the week ending May 7, Bedtime Prayers and Promises, the first title in Dayspring’s new Recordable Storybook Collection, is achieving success at Christian retail stores - and other retailers are taking notice of the strong sales trend. "We hear from our retail partners that Bedtime Prayers and Promises is selling very well," said Brenda Turner, DaySpring’s director of marketing communications. "We will release three more recordable storybooks in the fall and are excited to see the market embracing this new format." The recordable storybooks feature voice-save technology, allowing the reader's voice to be recorded into the book. As the young reader - or pre-reader - turns each page, the recorded voice "reads" the text of the story. The recorded story can be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come through the use of replaceable batteries. Bedtime Prayers and Promises retails for $29.95. More information is available at DaySpring.com/Storybook.
NEW ANNUAL BOOK SALES SURVEY
A new annual survey capturing the size and scope of the total U.S. book publishing industry is being introduced today along with preliminary analyses covering 2008−2010. The full report will be completed and made available in July 2011.
Incorporating net sales revenue and unit data from more than 1100 U.S. publishers, BookStats will represent the most comprehensive evaluation and analysis of the industry currently available. Upon its completion, it will include information from Trade, Scholarly, Education (K-12 and Higher Education) and Professional publishing houses as well as overall industry totals.
BookStats will reflect the transformational changes in the dynamic industry and the evolution of book production and sales. It was designed from the ground up to support publishers’ strategic priorities and will analyze data in a three-dimensional “cube:”
• By content categories – these include trade fiction and non-fiction, juvenile (early readers, middle grade and young adult), religious, K-12, higher education, professional and scholarly
• By formats – these include physical (hardcover, paperback, audio and mass market), non-physical (e-Book, enhanced e-Books, downloadable audio, paid mobile apps, internet products and services), bundles
• By distribution channels – these include physical retail (chains, independents, mass retailers and specialty), online retail, institutional sales (libraries and schools), direct-to-consumer, jobbers, wholesalers, book fairs and export sales
The full report with all hard data and analytics will be issued in July. For those interested in purchasing a subscription, more information is available at www.bookstats.org

OFFICE EQUIPMENT FOR SALE
To people in the Portland OR area: I plan to move out of my outside office the end of June (my lease is up then) and move back to a home office. My problem is that I already have what I need in the office at home, so will need to sell almost everything here--including the furniture. It will be a little while yet before I'm ready to start selling most of the stuff, but I do have a 4-drawer, lateral filing cabinet for sale right now. I'm asking $200 or best offer (these cost $700 new). If anyone lives nearby and is interested, just e-mail me at stuartcwmg@aol.com.

JERICHO BOOKS --NEW IMPRINT
(From Publisher's Weekly): FaithWords publisher Rolf Zettersten noted that the Hachette imprint celebrated its 10th anniversary last year and "currently has 50 million books sold." A new imprint, Jericho Books, will begin publishing books by "edgier" evangelical Christian authors in fall 2012, according to Jericho v-p and publisher Wendy Grisham (sister of John). Among the first will be Jay Bakker (Son of a Preacher Man), whose FaithWords book, Falling to Grace, has drawn some heat in Christian quarters because of Bakker's unabashed advocacy of LGBTQ rights. Bakker was at the FaithWords booth and told RBL his next book "won't look back as much" (he's the son of Jim and Tammy Faye)and will be more topically oriented. "The Church needs reformation and I hope to be a part of it," Bakker said.
