FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR BOOK COVER AWARD

ECPA Announces Finalists for the
2008 ECPA/Dickinson Press Book Cover Award

Phoenix, Arizona -- The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) announced this week the names of 13 finalists for the 2008 ECPA/Dickinson Press Book Cover Award. These annual awards recognize superior book cover design in the Christian publishing industry in four categories—Bibles, Small-Sized Publisher, Mid-Sized Publisher and Large Publisher. The top three covers in each category (four in the case of a tie) become finalists. A single winner for each category will be announced at ECPA’s Publishing University (PUBu) in Chicago, Illinois, on Sunday, November 2.

Thirteen ECPA member publishers submitted 63 covers for this year’s competition. Entries were evaluated based on how the cover design matched the characteristics of the book’s target audience using guidelines based on research findings of a Research Institute on Social Change (RISC) study of book buyers . Design components such as composition, images, font treatment, color palette, and title were considered.

Based on the RISC research, ECPA and Dickinson Press developed the ECPA/Dickinson Press Book Cover Award which is presented annually and recognizes the industry's finest book cover design integrity.

“Dickinson Press and ECPA are proud to recognize the most unique and innovative book cover designs in our industry,” says ECPA President Mark Kuyper. “Research proves that book covers powerfully impact consumer purchasing decisions, so this special recognition is well deserved.”

The ECPA/Dickinson Press Book Cover Award encourages, identifies and celebrates "best in class" design for Christian publishing's book covers. For more information about the program or to view finalist covers, visit www.ecpa.org/bookcoveraward.
